Mays' career spanned four decades, and he epitomized the definition of a five-tool player. He was the 1951 Rookie of the Year, a 1954 World Series champion, and two-time MVP. Mays also smacked 660 career home runs (sixth-most in MLB history), won 12 Gold Gloves in center field (tied for the most of any outfielder all-time with Roberto Clemente), and was a 24-time All-Star (tied for second-most all-time; Hank Aaron, 25). Mays also served two years in the military, fighting in the Korean War at the start of his MLB career.
